Gerlosberg
The south-facing slopes at the entrance to the Gerlostal valley are occupied by the municipality of Gerlosberg. In the south, the municipality is bordered by the bubbling Gerlosbach stream, which flows through a deeply cut gorge towards the Ziller.
The municipality’s coat of arms shows a bull’s head with 2 mighty horns on a golden background, symbolising the agricultural industry and the former gold mining. The municipality, which is still very much agricultural, stretches over terrain ranging from uphill to very steep, with small hamlets and beautiful old farms. Tourism also plays a very important role in the municipality. In addition to bed and breakfasts, private rooms and holiday apartments, there are also 3 hotels in the municipality, which are recommended as destinations for excursions. The “Maria Opferung” schoolhouse chapel on the Gerlosberg, as well as the old mill and various old farms are considered a feast for the eyes. In summer you can go on beautiful, long hikes in the lush alpine meadows, with a wonderful view into Zillertal, starting at the Rosenalm.
