Zellberg
The local municipality with about 650 inhabitants was first officially mentioned in a document in 1318. In 1891 the Sacred Heart Chapel was built and was dedicated to the Sacred Heart. Zellberg was awarded the municipal coat of arms in 1991, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Sacred Heart Chapel. The curved black part of the coat of arms symbolises the slope and the plain – Zellberg and Zellbergeben. In the red part there is a golden heart with a cross above it. This in turn symbolises the Sacred Heart Chapel on the Zellberg. This small chapel is an extremely attractive destination. It can be reached by a beautiful hiking trail, the “Holzweg”.
The summit section of the Zillertaler Höhenstraße also runs through the upper part of the municipality territory. If you like folk music, you should have a beer in the “Zellberg Stüberl” or in the Hirschbichlalm. With a bit of luck you will come across the “Zellberg Buam” trio or the “Zillertaler Haderlumpen”.
